The board holds custody and control of student information under Ontario's Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). How we handle it as the board's service provider, on the board's instructions, and why VoiceBloom is not the Ontario Student Record.

FERPA addendum, United States districts
For school districts in the United States. FERPA is a United States law and does not apply to an Ontario school board. We do not have a standard addendum on file. We will prepare one with your district, or work from your district's or state's template.
Student data is stored in the United States (Amazon Web Services us-east-1, through Supabase), and the functions that handle student data run in the United States (Vercel, iad1). It is encrypted in transit and at rest. When an adult asks for an AI draft, such as a report summary, a Coach answer or an IEP note, that request goes to our AI provider, Anthropic, and can include the student's name and recent word or symbol activity. Anthropic stores that data in the United States. The communication board the student taps sends nothing to AI.
